Maurice J. Brown/Director of External Affairs Verizon-NJ
Maurice J. Brown is director in Verizon - New Jersey's External Affairs Department and specializes in
urban development. Mr. Brown is responsible for carrying out Verizon's commitment to bring
the information superhighway to the urban communities and eliminate the expressway that produce
a one-way ticket to digital divide. Through Verizon's "Opportunity New Jersey" Initiatives, he works
to enhance the state's ability to attract and retain jobs and industries. He is a past recipient of New Jersey
YMCA's Black Achiever Award and was recognized by the City News as a Corporate Achiever. A
Leadership NJ 2001 Graduate, He serves on many Boards. He is Commissioner on the Montclair Civil
Rights Commission and Chair The Affirmative Action Committee. He is on the Newark Workforce
Investment Board, where he serves as Deputy Chair. He received the distinction of being named as one of
New Jersey's "100 Most Influential " in the urban community. He attended Newark College of Engineering,
majoring in electrical engineering with a minor in mathemtics. Mr. Brown who raised his daughter as a single parent
and is the proud grandparent of two, resides in Montclair with his wife Rosemary & two stepsons.
